Complete your bookshelves with bookends

When trying to decide how to best decorate a shelf or table top, bookends should be considered. They are great decorating accent pieces and also work as functional items, preventing book warping, decreasing page wrinkling, and protecting book covers. In addition to preserving your books, bookends add finesse to home offices, libraries, childrens rooms, and family rooms. For a unique decorating approach, place them in a bathroom to hold bubble bath reading material.

But bookends don't only hold books. They can add drama to a CD collection, accessorize photo albums, or hold folders of work to be completeduse your imagination. You can arrange cookbooks between bookends that match your kitchen decor, whether it is roosters, apples, or decorative bottles. Then, group with baskets, decorative plates, or a prized cookie jar. Books that no one intends to read can be partnered with bookends and displayed on top of kitchen cabinets.

What kind of bookends are available? Any kind you want. You simply need to determine what material and shape the book ends need to be in order to contribute to the definition of a particular room. For example, a little girls room could utilize bookends that look like Noah's Ark to hold her collection of Childrens books. Brass eagle book ends would look great in a den filled with deer heads and decoys, while cherub characters may fit best in an elegant living room holding books of romantic poetry.

Are your books lined up neatly in a bookshelf? Dont be afraid to jazz it up a bit. Take the books out of the case and divide them according to subject. Chances are good that you will have several titles per subject. Then purchase bookends in a style that matches the subject matter. Arrange them in groups on your bookshelf along side framed pictures, decorative plates, or vases.

Book ends provide an opportunity to infuse your personality or interests into a room. Because they serve a dual purpose, book ends are a justifiable decorating expense. You can preserve your books while adding a new element or focal point to your living spaces.bookends should be considered. Customer Review: Good speakers for price & size

I bought these for my bedroom. I use them with my Yamaha receiver & dvd/cd player. The sound is pretty good and they don't take up too much space in my small room.

Customer Review: Good Speakers

I really like these small speakers - at least smaller than the old ones I was using. They fit in the speaker stands I had, but take up so much less space than those monsters! And the sound is excellent.

Customer Review: Making a proper mai tai

I make it a point of ordering mai tais anywhere I go and after learning how to make a proper mai tai from Jeff Berry's Grog Log, I am usually disappointed and have had some really bad ones except Trader Vic's original Mai Tai(You have to ask for the original).

Heres a tip. Buy this set of books, make your drinks and put your local hangouts drinks to shame by challenging them to a Mai Tai Throwdown like I have.

Thanks Jeff for bringing back the lost art of tropical drinks.

Verilux Natural Spectrum Deluxe Portable Lamp

Verilux Natural Spectrum Deluxe Portable Lamp
Customer Review: An excellent reading lamp

I've been using this as a reading lamp in both my home and work offices for about the past six months, and generally have been happy with it. The other posters certainly are right about the sticky residue, although the company name doesn't bother me, I guess, as I'm withing viewing range of my Samsung monitor, Jamo speakers, Logitech keyboard, Brother printer, etc., etc.)

I haven't thought about this lamp as being portable, given that it weighs over 3 pounds, but if you read a lot it might be worth taking along. It certainly is bright, but not overly so. I find the natural spectrum light makes the material easier to read and causes less eyestrain than regular incandescent or fluorescent light. The bulb does put out some heat, so be careful.

There's one annoying quirk. In my office, the lamp is near my Tivoli table radio. When the lamp is on, it causes an electronic buzzing on the FM band. There may be some filtering I can do to solve this problem, but I haven't found it yet.

Customer Review: Not the product I expected

I bought this product specifically because it was originally described as being/having "mood-brightening Natural Spectrum light." I thought it would help on the gloomy Pacific Northwest winter days. I got it on a Friday sale price, so it seemed like a good value for the product description given here.

The lamp just arrived (a few days ago - when I originally submitted this review), and the product's FAQ sheet states this product is "designed only to provide excellent quality light for daily tasks and hobbies. This lamp does *not* offer the correct level of light intensity specified by the National Institute of Mental Health for the treatment of Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.).

The product literature packed with the lamp has no mention at all that this product offers "mood-brightening" light. Because of this glaring misrepresentation, I am currently debating whether to the return the lamp.

I agree with the other reviewer that the adhesive labels (there are two) are VERY sticky and difficult to remove completely. I used a combination of methods to remove the adhesive residue.

And I agree with the comments about the company name being printed on the front of the lamp. When I saw it in the picture, I thought it had to be some kind of company watermark or logo for the stock photo ONLY, so I was shocked to see "Verilux" actually printed/embossed into the lamp housing, in a very prominent location on the front of the lamp. Very cheesy, for a lamp of this price point and quality.

If you're looking for a "clean" bright light, in a stylish, portable lamp, this is not a bad choice. But if you're looking for a full-spectrum light that does offer some light "therapy," this is probably the wrong choice. The company does have other, "therapeutic" lighting options, but at a higher price point.

Nov 1, 2006 UPDATE - I was concerned enough about the original, misleading product description that I submitted my concerns to Amazon. Risk

Risk
In this classic game of military strategy, you will lead your armies as they sweep across vast continents to launch daring attacks against your enemies. But keep an eye on your flanks: your opponents are fighting to capture your troops and claim your territories. Reinforce your armies with additional infantry, cavalry and artillery, then attack with a throw of the dice. Now fortify your positions and prepare to defend your borders from rivals' attacks. Capture all 42 territories - and you conquer the world! Are you up to the challenge' Then embark on the classic Risk game of World Domination. For more challenge, use the rules variations for experts. And for a shorter variation, try the Capital Risk game. For the first time, Risk includes the European game variation called Secret Mission Risk, whose special cards give each player a specific "mission" to complete to win the game. So join the battle to conquer the world... and learn why, since 1959, millions of players have made Risk the military strategy game of choice. For 2 to 6 players. Game includes: game board; 5 battle dice; deck of 44 Risk cards and 12 secret mission cards; 6 sets of military miniatures: infantry, cavalry, artillery.

Customer Review: Risk

This is a game that take a great deal of time to play, but it causes your mind to work as you progress through the levels.

The sudden turn of events will always keep the players on edge.

Customer Review: Good game - but I miss the army boxes

We bought this game of risk to replace our old game, which was lost in a move. There are several differences in the new risk and the old risk. One difference is the mission cards. At first I was disapointed that the mission cards were not the same as the old risk, but after playing a few games, I admit that it is just as much fun. The other difference with the game is the lack of army boxes. The old game came with a clear plastic box to store each army color in. This game does not have boxes, just wells in the box to store each color. The clear boxes were quite useful during the game as you spend a lot of time taking armies out and putting armies in the box as you lose or gain reinforcements. I find the lack of boxes a pain as pieces fall on the floor etc. when you just have them piled on the table. However, it is still a great game and we are happy with this version.

I don't know what the above reviewer ordered, but when I placed my order for this book that was all that I got...the book. When I inquired as to where the cookware was I was told that there was none included in this item purchase.
