Comic Books Can Be For Professionals Too

The most recognizable and triumphant periods in the comic books era were: the Golden age, Silver age and the Bronze Age. We've all heard of the saying, "what goes up must come down." This seemed to apply to the comics industry as well because it didn't only come down in the mid 1990s, but it came down with a crash.
Lately the comic book industry has been trying to pick itself up through the aid of comic 2 films. This approach has proved to be helpful for titles like Spiderman, X-men, and Sin City in sales but it may have been hurtful for other titles that flopped in the Box office. That is why this is not enough to bring redemption to the industry. One of the problems that led to the downfall of the comics industry was said to be accessibility due to the removal of comics from stores and shops. This can no longer be true for the reason that comics are getting exposure through animations, movies, and the internet. Then why is this industry still struggling? I'll ask another question, why is anime doing so well? The simple answer is better storyline and the fact that it is made for a broader audience. Japanese comics are usually in the form of graphic novels 60 to 200 pages. As long as comics are seen as a kid thing, or for the unintelligent, it would be hard for major growth in the American industry.
In the past, there were a lot of criticisms about comics making the readers delinquent and depreciating their reading abilities. These criticisms resulted in drafting of the comic codes. Parents believed the claims and criticisms made toward comics and were not elated about their children reading these "picture books." I intentionally wrote "picture books" because picture books are related to little kids learning how to read.
Many of us read comics when we were kids, but when we hit fourteen we are feeling closer to adulthood. We're teenagers, young adults. This meant anything synonymous to children had to go, including our comics. The problem was, we knew we couldn't just stop reading comics or dispose of them, so some of us decided to read our comics in private. We even played the hide the comic book inside another schoolbook trick, going as far as to dis comic books in front of all our friends, to make sure that no one associated us with such "childish things".
Some of you may have experienced looking at comic books at a store ready to purchase, when one of your friends walk into the store. You are walking to the cashier and notice her walking towards you. You're now trying to hide the comic book behind your back and talk to her as calmly as possible, praying that she doesn't see this comic book you're hiding. You greet each other and chat a little. Unfortunately for you she notices the comic book behind you and asks, "What's that you're holding behind your back." You begin to sweat and all that runs through your mind is "Oh no!" You now begin to think of all the possible excuses you could give to explain why you're holding a super friends comic book in 2006. Bingo! You've got an idea, so you confidently begin to explain to her, "Oh this thing, my little brother likes to read this piece of trash." Fortunately for you she believed it and your reputation is safe.
Let's be real, if we saw anyone around the age of seventeen to fifty reading comics we would think to ourselves, "Isn't he to old for that?" This grown man may be a genius or even a great athlete, but if he picks up a comic book, he's just another unintelligent geek. The whole point I'm trying to make is comics and adults don't mix in our society. As I mentioned earlier, it is because of the perception created about comics. Theories like comic-books are picture books for little children or comics make readers delinquent and reduce their reading abilities helped build the perception. And neither has been proven.
If anything, comic books are helpful to readers because it is a form of story telling. The pictures only help one capture the story being told, leading to the creation of a visible scene. Movie makers, coaches, video game designers, Scientists, engineers, etc, all implement this method.

Customer Review: Ticking Time Bomb
I received this drive for Christmas. It lasted two and a half months of light use before failing inexplicably. Blinking front indicator light, but the drive won't spin up and no computer I connect it to will recognize it. The day before it worked fine. Tech support was unhelpful, and I'm loathe to exchange the unit for another from the manufacturer. The drive is sealed inside the plastic shell, making removal difficult. I would not use this drive for anything valuable, it's cheaply made and untrustworthy.

I purchased this backpack for my high schooler, who always seems to run through backpacks incredibly fast. The review made the product seem superior than other backpacks, and it was more expensive than the ones I usually find at our local mass-merchandise store. Jan sport book bags are always last forever. I have three and I probably could use only one for everything. They are very durable. This particular one, I decided to buy because it has many compartments and is bigger than the average book bag. I love how all of the compartments are, they are perfect or all of me needs. I would recommend this book bag to anyone who is in school. I am in college and it is very useful because i can put many things in this book bag and not have to carry around much else. Customer Review: I've had a good experience with Quickbooks Pro for Mac
I realize there are quite a few negative reviews here, but I have had nothing but good result from this program. My wife and I run a consulting firm and the fact that Quickbooks has a consulting firm set-up feature sold me on it. We do not need to track sales or inventory, and Quickbooks was able to make that distinction and set up our business just the way it needed to be. The Business Walkthrough is a great feature and made setting up shop very simple.
I was a little intimidated in the beginning, since I have little accounting experience. But I printed out and read the section on Consulting from the help document and everything became more clear to me. Now that I have a better grasp of the features I am much more comfortable with the program. It reminds me a lot of Quicken I use for personal finance, which helps with the comfort factor.
I downloaded the Trial first, and was able to perform all functions and even set up the company. I wanted to see if it would afford everything I needed, and it did. I would recommend people try it first, to see if it gives you everything you are looking for.
My only complaint is the update pricing, or lack there of. Intuit should offer discounts to it's loyal customers.
I would recommend this program to anyone in the consulting field due to the defined business model it can spit out. I like not having all the extra accounts and expenses I don't need to track.
Customer Review: Intuit makes Microsoft seem user friendly
The only thing worse that Quickbooks for Windows is Quickbooks for Mac. As users of both products, I agree completely with the multiple negative reviews posted earlier. Intuit's refusal to support bugs within their software is unethical. I'd say criminal, but since we all have to agree to a disclaimer that no piece of software comes with any guarantee to do anything, anytime, anywhere, there's no legal recourse.
When are the consumer protection groups going to wake up and go after software companies for their refusal to take responsibility for their products, with Intuit at the head of the line? When are we consumers going to wake up and tell our accountants to take their requirement we use Quickbooks and give us some real alternatives?
I suppose a big part of the problem is that there aren't any decent alternatives. Quickbooks seems to have killed most of them off - but you might take a look at the open source GnuCash program. Perhaps it can morph into a Quickbooks alternative.

Customer Review: Nice and efficient solution
I purchased this one from Amazon a month ago and so far I can only give good recommendations for this product.
First of all, size. It is just a bit more than two regular HDD put together, not huge at all, looks nice on your shelf or desk.
Another surprise was a level of noise - it's virtually silent. When you power it on, it makes audible noise for about 5 seconds and then it goes silent. Terrific, I love it. It's much less noisy even compared to fanless external hard drive enclosures.
Installation didn't take much time or effort. I plugged it to FireWire port and it went right up in my XP system. It took a bit longer on a Vista laptop, but mostly because of Vista, it was looking for drivers et cetera for probably half a minute but then it was alright. It acts like a normal harddrive in your system. Works nice and fast just like it should.
Keep in mind that when you use MyBook for the first time, you might need to initialize it (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Hard Disk Management in XP, similar in Vista), otherwise it will not appear on list of your harddrives. But that's only for the first time.
Being formatted to NTFS, this harddrive showed me 1.81 TB of free space.
I got it because I need a huge HDD to store all my photo and camcorder backups handy. Currently I've got them on DVDRs and I tell you -- copying your stuff from DVDR to this drive is the most time consuming thing.
Absolutely recommended.
Customer Review: Poor assembly and lousy warranty policy
Very quiet hard drive if it was not for vibration noises generated by the poor assembly of the housing. Western Digital only offered replacement with a refurbished (or re-certified how they call it) unit, leaving the costs for shipping back the defective unit with the end user. Moreover, Western Digital also claims that it is the responsibility of the reseller to replace the unit within the first 30 days after purchase anyway. Beach Camera, my reseller here on Amazon, however, did not respond to my request for a replacement so far...

Let's be real, if we saw anyone around the age of seventeen to fifty reading comics we would think to ourselves, "Isn't he to old for that?" This grown man may be a genius or even a great athlete, but if he picks up a comic book, he's just another unintelligent geek. The whole point I'm trying to make is comics and adults don't mix in our society. As I mentioned earlier, it is because of the perception created about comics. Theories like comic-books are picture books for little children or comics make readers delinquent and reduce their reading abilities helped build the perception. And neither has been proven.
If anything, comic books are helpful to readers because it is a form of story telling. The pictures only help one capture the story being told, leading to the creation of a visible scene. Movie makers, coaches, video game designers, Scientists, engineers, etc, all implement this method.

Customer Review: Ticking Time Bomb
I received this drive for Christmas. It lasted two and a half months of light use before failing inexplicably. Blinking front indicator light, but the drive won't spin up and no computer I connect it to will recognize it. The day before it worked fine. Tech support was unhelpful, and I'm loathe to exchange the unit for another from the manufacturer. The drive is sealed inside the plastic shell, making removal difficult. I would not use this drive for anything valuable, it's cheaply made and untrustworthy.

I purchased this backpack for my high schooler, who always seems to run through backpacks incredibly fast. The review made the product seem superior than other backpacks, and it was more expensive than the ones I usually find at our local mass-merchandise store. The backpack turned out to be nothing more than the ordinary ones we buy.
If your child isn't carrying a heavy load of books on a daily basis, this would have worked; however mine does, and this backpack is no different than the cheaper ones at any store.

Jan sport book bags are always last forever. I have three and I probably could use only one for everything. They are very durable. This particular one, I decided to buy because it has many compartments and is bigger than the average book bag. I love how all of the compartments are, they are perfect or all of me needs. I would recommend this book bag to anyone who is in school. I am in college and it is very useful because i can put many things in this book bag and not have to carry around much else. Customer Review: I've had a good experience with Quickbooks Pro for Mac
I realize there are quite a few negative reviews here, but I have had nothing but good result from this program. My wife and I run a consulting firm and the fact that Quickbooks has a consulting firm set-up feature sold me on it. We do not need to track sales or inventory, and Quickbooks was able to make that distinction and set up our business just the way it needed to be. The Business Walkthrough is a great feature and made setting up shop very simple.
I was a little intimidated in the beginning, since I have little accounting experience. But I printed out and read the section on Consulting from the help document and everything became more clear to me. Now that I have a better grasp of the features I am much more comfortable with the program. It reminds me a lot of Quicken I use for personal finance, which helps with the comfort factor.
I downloaded the Trial first, and was able to perform all functions and even set up the company. I wanted to see if it would afford everything I needed, and it did. I would recommend people try it first, to see if it gives you everything you are looking for.
My only complaint is the update pricing, or lack there of. Intuit should offer discounts to it's loyal customers.
I would recommend this program to anyone in the consulting field due to the defined business model it can spit out. I like not having all the extra accounts and expenses I don't need to track.
Customer Review: Intuit makes Microsoft seem user friendly
The only thing worse that Quickbooks for Windows is Quickbooks for Mac. As users of both products, I agree completely with the multiple negative reviews posted earlier. Intuit's refusal to support bugs within their software is unethical. I'd say criminal, but since we all have to agree to a disclaimer that no piece of software comes with any guarantee to do anything, anytime, anywhere, there's no legal recourse.
When are the consumer protection groups going to wake up and go after software companies for their refusal to take responsibility for their products, with Intuit at the head of the line? When are we consumers going to wake up and tell our accountants to take their requirement we use Quickbooks and give us some real alternatives?
I suppose a big part of the problem is that there aren't any decent alternatives. Quickbooks seems to have killed most of them off - but you might take a look at the open source GnuCash program. Perhaps it can morph into a Quickbooks alternative.

Customer Review: Nice and efficient solution
I purchased this one from Amazon a month ago and so far I can only give good recommendations for this product.
First of all, size. It is just a bit more than two regular HDD put together, not huge at all, looks nice on your shelf or desk.
Another surprise was a level of noise - it's virtually silent. When you power it on, it makes audible noise for about 5 seconds and then it goes silent. Terrific, I love it. It's much less noisy even compared to fanless external hard drive enclosures.
Installation didn't take much time or effort. I plugged it to FireWire port and it went right up in my XP system. It took a bit longer on a Vista laptop, but mostly because of Vista, it was looking for drivers et cetera for probably half a minute but then it was alright. It acts like a normal harddrive in your system. Works nice and fast just like it should.
Keep in mind that when you use MyBook for the first time, you might need to initialize it (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Hard Disk Management in XP, similar in Vista), otherwise it will not appear on list of your harddrives. But that's only for the first time.
Being formatted to NTFS, this harddrive showed me 1.81 TB of free space.
I got it because I need a huge HDD to store all my photo and camcorder backups handy. Currently I've got them on DVDRs and I tell you -- copying your stuff from DVDR to this drive is the most time consuming thing.
Absolutely recommended.
Customer Review: Poor assembly and lousy warranty policy
Very quiet hard drive if it was not for vibration noises generated by the poor assembly of the housing. Western Digital only offered replacement with a refurbished (or re-certified how they call it) unit, leaving the costs for shipping back the defective unit with the end user. Moreover, Western Digital also claims that it is the responsibility of the reseller to replace the unit within the first 30 days after purchase anyway. Beach Camera, my reseller here on Amazon, however, did not respond to my request for a replacement so far...
